A Note from Jan Thomas. Now enjoying her third visit to Gîtes Rue du Château.
‘Another lovely day spent with friends...old and new...visiting the Pierre Lecat Cognac distillery...a small family-run business. We were given a very informative tour of the distillery and it was interesting to learn how wines, pineau and cognac all start off with the same process but are taken off at different times during the varying stages of fermentation etc. Inevitably we had a tasting session afterwards and numerous bottles were purchased before we left.
A delicious lunch followed at the Auberge du Noyer near Londigny after which our friendly host Ian Strutt (Strutty) drove us to quaint little towns around Ruffec ending with a visit to Verteuil-sur-Charente to see the fairytale castle that dominates the little town.
Our evening ended with a homemade pizza night back at Gîtes rue du Chateau - Ruffec with Strutty and myself creating a sweet pizza of Nutella, raspberries, banana, pineapple, chocolate and raspberry flavoured Jaffa cakes. Mmm....delicious! '
