Ruffec is a town in the Charente department in southwestern France.
Profiting from the proximity of the Charente, Ruffec is a beautiful stopover town, between Poitiers and Angoulême. It makes an excellent base to enjoy all the charming sights of the region.
Ruffec is known for being a stage town on the road to Paris and Spain. Founded in 963 by King Lothair, the city was once home to a castle fortress which regularly attracted the Kings of France.
During the Second World War, Ruffec was at the centre of Resistance for the evacuation of the Allied airmen towards Spain.
